The A-Z Challenge – O is for Olympics – #atozchallenge

This year is an Olympic year and the 2012 games will be held in London. Although there are so many people in this country who are complaining about the waste of money blah blah blahdy blah, I find myself quite excited about the whole thing. Although I’ve not been able to get or afford tickets, I’m still quite looking forward to what sort of show London can put on.

Although you can watch a lot of Athletics, Football and so on throughout the year, the Olympics is a great opportunity to watch some of the less well-known sports, for instance I found myself watching a lot of the Archery at Beijing 2008 – surprisingly riveting!

One of the reasons that London 2012 is a milestone for me is that when Beijing 2008 was on TV, our first baby was five months old and we said to each other that the next time the Olympics was on he’d be four, but couldn’t really imagine him at age 4. Well now it’s 2012 and he has just turned 4 and the time has gone so quickly. I hope he will be at least a little interested in some of the events.

What are your favourite Olympic sports to watch? Do you have an opinion on the Games? Good investment or waste of money?

I like the Olympics too. Not a waste. The host city usually benefits from the new infrastructure, if not from tourism. The ceremonies and competition always show a kinder, gentler world giving us all hope for peace, at the very least a welcome break from news of war and terrorism. Visiting from AtoZ.

  2. Hello! I LOVE love love the Olympic Games!!! Gymnastics is my favorite sport; I follow gymnastics news every day, not just the Olympics, but the Games are the biggest, most exciting stage. I can’t believe it’s been four years already since my favorite gymnast, Nastia Liukin, won the all-around gold medal. I feel like it was just yesterday watching the Beijing Games. You’re right about time going by so fast.

Other sports I’m excited to see at the Games: swimming is always super exciting, as well as diving, track and field, beach volleyball, synchronized swimming, and so many others. I don’t watch much TV, but I’m glued to the television every night through the 2 weeks of the Games!! I can’t wait!!

Hope you have a wonderful week and happy A to Z!!
