Shock, horror and fall down backwards, I’ve actually managed a meal plan this week. After several weeks of flying by the seat of my pants and incurring the increase in food shopping bill, I have got my butt back in gear and – hopefully – back in the more frugal swing of things!
As I explained in a recent post, we’ve taken a step back in managing our spending as Mr W has been off work sick for some time now, so it’s all to easy to think ‘sod it’ and overspend, waste food and other dreadful things but in an effort to trim both spending and waistline here is our meal plan for this week.
Saturday – Fish, chips and salad for family, salmon, salad, jacket potato for me
Sunday – Spaghetti Carbonara with garlic bread
Monday – Mushroom Pork
Tuesday – Leftovers
Wednesday – Grilled Mango and Mustard Chicken, potatoes and veg
Thursday – Toad in the Hole
Friday – On holiday
So there we are. We’ve already, obviously, had Saturday and Sunday’s meals and they went down ok. The carbonara would’ve gone down better with the kids had they not been so tired – a heavy morning of paddling pool fun for them – as they usually eat it fine. They did scarf down the garlic bread though – I made this using an olive bread from Asda (as when I went shopping they had run out of baguettes) and some leftover Lurpak garlic butter I had in the fridge – very nice!
Most of the rest of the stuff is pretty much our normal fare so it should all be ok. The Toad in the Hole is another effort to make one that actually rises, doesn;t stick to the tin and cooks, as Toad in the Hole is famously my nemesis!
Friday is a bit different as we’re going away to the Isle of Wight for the weekend – I hope, it’s all still dependent on Mr W at the moment so watch this space!!
