Meal Planning Monday – 9th July 2012 – #MealPlanningMonday

Well, we certainly ate like Kings last week, thanks in part to a delivery of meat from Westin Gourmet. We finally ate the steaks that I’d been intending for earlier in the week on Sunday night and my word they were delicious. We had one Hereford Sirloin and an Aberdeen Angus Sirloin and I just did them in the pan with a few chips, mushrooms, peas and – so 80s – a pepper sauce. Yum!

This week, we’re being less luxurious and are having a ‘clear the freezer’ week. We have so many pots of leftovers that I feel the need to start again, so we’ll mainly be eating:

Monday – Pie and Chips
Tuesday – Leftover Turkey Curry for me, Pasta for the rest of the family
Wednesday – Toad in the Hole
Thursday – Spagetti Bolognese
Friday – Hubby is hoping for chip shop chips…
Saturday – Fish Cakes and Jacket Potatoes
Sunday – Fish Steaks in Sauce with Veg

So, nothing out of the ordinary, but should see us through the week. I have been poking around in the garage and fished out more recipe books, so might try and do something a bit more adventurous next week. One of the books I have is a reprint of The Dairy Book of Home Cookery and looking through it, some of the recipes are so fantastically retro that I might have to give them another look – blancmange anyone??

I have that dairy book of home cookery! I use it for my fish pie recipe, and also spag Bol (with adjustments – they don’t add any form of tomato except tomato paste!). I do love that book, and it is so retro! My first ever cooked-from-scratch ‘dinner party’ meal was the turkey Marengo recipe from there!

I have to admit it’s all laid out in an ‘idiot’s guide’ style. I used it for their Lemon Meringue Pie and Custard Tart recipes, both very good :0)

  2. Good luck with the freezer clearance, I’m kind of trying to clear mine, just a slow process. Very organised as ever!

  3. Lovely meal plan – your steak dinner had me drooling!

Bolognese is a popular choice this week, I’m doing it and I’ve seen it elsewhere.
My Mum has that book and she also has the original one as well, I remeber learning to make chocolate truffles from the reprint edition – yummy!
