U is for… University #AtoZChallenge

I quite like education and learning stuff in a formal way, as I said with the Pharos courses earlier, but I just wanted to share with you my ‘money and time no object’ ideal next education project, which is the Postgraduate Certificate in Family and Local History, which is run by the Centre for Archive and Information Studies at University of Dundee.

webheadcaisUnfortunately at present the cost, from £305 per module is prohibitive, so it’s definitely something on the back burner for now, but it looks really interesting, with core modules dealing with essential English and Scottish records, and optional modules including Latin for family historians – which I would definitely be interested in having taken German at school instead of Latin – and palaeography and diplomatics with English and Scottish records, which will allow you to decipher old handwriting and understand the provenance of the various documents and their uses.

Do you have any ‘money and time allowing’ education projects you’d like to do in the future? What would be your ‘dream course’?

  1. I would love to take gender studies – specifically women’s studies courses. I would enjoy some women in literary history courses (note my a to z theme!) There are so many things I would love to learn… and many of them I scoop up and begin teaching myself.

It is always a pleasure to pop by… now that I am back from my travels!

  2. Those sound really interesting! I really want to go to graduate school someday and study medieval history. Unfortunately here in the States it’s ridiculously expensive, so I’m not sure when it’s going to happen…
